Skilled Visas

SKILLED VISAS

THERE ARE NUMBER OF VISA OPTIONS AVAILABLE UNDER SKILLED VISAS:

SKILLED INDEPENDENT VISA (SUBCLASS 189)

This visa is point tested visa and is for skilled workers who are not sponsored by an employer or family member or nominated by a state or territory government. It allows you to live and work in Australia as a permanent resident.

SKILLED NOMINATED VISA (SUBCLASS 190)

This visa is for point tested workers who are nominated by a state or territory government agency. It allows you to live and work in Australia as a permanent resident.

SKILLED WORK REGIONAL (PROVISIONAL) VISA (SUBCLASS 491)

The Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491) is a provisional points-tested visa to assist regional Australia to access the people and skills it needs to grow and thrive. This visa is for people who wish to settle in regional Australia who have an occupation which is in high demand in Australia’s labor market and is listed on the Commonwealth’s skilled occupation lists. The state nomination for this visa class is closely administered by the Department of Home Affairs.

You must be nominated by an Australian state or territory government before applying for this visa and must provide evidence of a current offer of employment in a position located in a designated regional area of Victoria (as defined by the Department of Home Affairs).

SUBCLASS 494 SKILLED EMPLOYER SPONSORED (REGIONAL VISA)

This visa is valid for 5 years and is conditional that the visa holders live, work and study only in regional areas and in their nominated occupation/position. Visa holders must work for their nominating employer in regional Australia and will also be unable to apply for most other skills based visas in Australia unless they have completed at least three years in a designated regional area, unless exceptional circumstances exist.

Post the conditions being met 494 visa for at least 3 years, a new permanent visa may be granted subclass 191 (skilled regional) to those applicant’s who have abided by the conditions mentioned in their visa grant along with minimum threshold of taxable income requirements met.

SKILLED REGIONAL VISA (SUBCLASS 887)

This is a permanent visa for people who have lived and worked in specified areas of regional Australia by holding any one of eligible provisional visas.

TEMPORARY GRADUATE VISA (SUBCLASS 485)

The Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) lets you live, study and work in Australia temporarily after you have finished your studies. Students are only able to access the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) once as a primary applicant. This visa has two streams:

Graduate Work stream – for international students with an eligible qualification who graduate with skills and qualifications that relate to an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL). A visa in this stream is granted for 18 months from the date of grant.

Post-Study Work stream – for international students who graduate with a higher education degree from an Australian education provider, regardless of their field of study. This stream is only available to students who applied for, and were granted, their first student visa to Australia on or after 5 November 2011. A visa in this stream can be granted for up to four years from the date the visa is granted, depending on the visa applicant’s qualification.

SKILLED — RECOGNISED GRADUATE VISA (SUBCLASS 476)

This visa allows recent engineering graduates of recognized institutions to gain up to 18 months of skilled work experience.
