Coming to Australia for your nursing OSCE?
Prepare the visa visit around your actual examination stage and circumstances. Target Success Immigration & Education has experience assisting OSCE applicants and nurses with visa and skills-assessment matters. Discuss your position with Shaminder Singh, Registered Migration Agent, MARN 2217995.
The Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) is part of the assessment pathway for some internationally qualified nurses. Follow your current Ahpra instructions about eligibility, fees, examination arrangements and any visa evidence required.
Explain the purpose of your visit clearly.
A Visitor visa (subclass 600) may be relevant to an eligible applicant travelling for an OSCE. The appropriate visa and stream depend on the full circumstances, including any preparation course or other proposed activities. “OSCE” describes your purpose; it does not itself establish visa eligibility.
Ahpra’s examination process and the visa decision have different requirements. An examination letter or fee payment does not guarantee a visa. Use the correspondence you actually hold and explain any dates still to be allocated accurately.
| Your goal | Responsible authority | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Enter or stay in Australia | Department of Home Affairs | The visa pathway, visit purpose and visa conditions. |
| Australian nursing registration | NMBA, supported by Ahpra | The registration pathway and required assessment stages. |
| A nursing migration skills assessment | ANMAC | Whether your visa pathway needs an assessment and the appropriate assessment type. |
Information to prepare for an OSCE visa discussion.
- Your current country, passport country and any Australian visa or upcoming expiry.
- Your nursing qualifications and current professional registration.
- Your Ahpra assessment stage and examination correspondence.
- Your intended visit, any preparation program and the time you expect to need.
- How the visit will be funded and your work, family and other circumstances.
- Any previous visa applications, refusals or cancellations.
This is a starting list for assessment. A complete evidence checklist depends on the visa and your circumstances. Keep identity, financial and refusal documents out of the initial website form; we will discuss an appropriate way to provide them.
Already had a visa refusal?
Tell us about it at the start. Keep the complete decision letter available for an agreed assessment. We can consider the reasons, your current position and any available application or review options. Relevant deadlines must be checked promptly. Another applicant’s success does not establish the result for your matter.
Plan travel and future work separately.
Check the actual examination arrangements and visa decision before committing to travel. Visitor visas do not permit ordinary employment. Passing an OSCE does not itself grant nursing registration, a work visa or permanent residence.
Your first enquiry.
Tell us your current country, your Ahpra or OSCE stage and any important dates. Ask for an OSCE visa consultation so we can confirm the appropriate assessment and service scope.
Common questions.
Does every internationally qualified nurse need an OSCE?
No. The registration pathway depends on the current NMBA requirements and your qualifications, registration and practice history. Check your own pathway before paying for examination preparation or making travel plans.
Can I work as a nurse during a Visitor visa stay?
A nursing qualification or examination result does not create work rights. You need the required Australian registration and immigration permission before working. Check the conditions of the visa actually held.
Do you provide the official OSCE examination?
The examination process is administered through Ahpra and the NMBA arrangements. TSIE provides the agreed visa and migration assistance; examination and registration decisions remain with the responsible authorities.
